2007 was my year, is 2011 yours?

I became a blogger four years ago when I published four posts on New Year’s Day of 2007. My resolution for that year was to push myself to write more, and I thought blogging might be the perfect way to do that.

I’ve been all over the place in the past four years with this blog. If you were to go through my archives from January 2007 to today, you’d think this thing was written by four different guys. And two hormonal women. That’s just for the times that there are archives, because there have been seasons where I haven’t given very much to this place at all.

If you were to read one of the blogs about how to run a successful blog, I’ve done the exact opposite of everything they recommend.

And yet.

This thing is a part of me.

The empty “Add New Post” window with a flashing cursor and the “Publish” button next to it are part of me.

The number that shows me how many of you are stopping by each day is part of me.

Your comments are part of me.

In the same way I look at photos of my kids when they were babies and think, “That just happened yesterday!” I remember writing every post – all 670 (most of those published, some not) – as if it just happened.

I wouldn’t trade what I’ve created here – whatever it is – for anything. And you know what?

I want that for you, too.

If you don’t already have a blog, I want 2011 to be the year you start one.

In fact, let’s spend this week talking a little more about that.

To kick things off, if you already have a blog, would you leave a comment with your blog address and let us know when you got started blogging?

I started one year after you, 2008, and have been faithful to it for most of it, did take a little time off last year, to stop and recharge my batteries a little. But for the most part, I did it almost every day. This year, 2011, will find it moving to three days a week, Mon-Wed-Friday and occasionally something in the middle.

It can get rather demanding as I am sure you know.
