I’m spending some time with a new watch, and I didn’t expect it to have this effect on me.
I received the Junghans Max Bill Regulator from Windup Watch Shop last week, not fully knowing what to expect.
I’ve seen pics of this watch online, but I wasn’t sure if its online good looks would translate to real life.
Unboxing the Junghans Max Bill Regulator
The packaging is luxurious but not overdone.
Nice grey leather-wrapped box. White leather interior in a color scheme that complements the watch nicely.
Design and Visual Appeal
The Max Bill Regulator is clean and minimal, with a slightly retro look you might expect from German designers.
Max Bill trained at the Bauhaus school, and that influence is visible in the dial.
As the name will tell you, this is a regulator watch. The hour, minute, and second hands are independent of each other, each on its own subdial, rather than stacked on a single center axis.
This makes for a fun experience when you wind the watch and set the time. It’s cool to see the independent hands moving together.
A few details I noticed on the dial:
- Small lume indicators on the hour and minute hands
- Lume markers at each quarter hour around the perimeter
- Thin bezel, which makes the crystal look domed
The Fit and Strap for the Max Bill Regulator
The case is 40mm but wears smaller than that.
This is my first watch with a Milanese strap. Sizing it took some trial and error and some Googling.
Once you’ve got it sized correctly, it’s comfortable and enjoyable to wear.
Early Take
I love the look and feel of the Junghans Max Bill Regulator.
The more time I spend with this watch, the more time I want to spend with this watch, if that makes sense.
