Back in early July I introduced the Wolbrook Skindiver Automatic as my Watch of the Month, with thanks to Windup Watch Shop for the loan.
That post was a first impression.
This is the verdict, after a month of wearing it every day.
A Month of Real Wear
July had me traveling more than usual, and the Skindiver was a worthy companion.
Two trips to Boston with my family. An overnight tennis tournament with my son. A company golf outing. A good amount of pool time squeezed in between all of it.
The watch went everywhere with me.
How It Held Up
The Wolbrook Skindiver Automatic saw a lot of action. Grilling burgers on the 4th of July. Moving a kid into a dorm. Slinging luggage into Ubers.
This isn’t a delicate piece, and I never treated it like one.
The Boston trips were the real surprise. With a dress shirt at dinner it looked like it belonged there just as much as it did with a t-shirt at the coffee shop earlier in the day. A lot of dive watches can’t pull that off.
A few small things kept catching my eye all month.
The dial is easy to just look at. The bezel clicks with a satisfying bit of resistance every time. And the sweep of the seconds hand is still fun to watch a month in, a small reminder there’s real mechanical work happening under the crystal.
The One Thing I’d Change
The strap holes are punched a little off from where I actually wear my watches, so it sat loose and flopped over my wrist bone more than I’d like.
An easy fix with a new strap. Just something to know before you buy.
The Verdict
This watch punches above its price.
If you want something that reads more expensive than it is, and something that probably isn’t in the collection of any of your friends, it’s an easy recommendation.
A month of real use showed me this would be a fantastic daily driver.
