A box from Withernot showed up with two rugby shirts in it, and as a guy who went to college in the 90s, I had no choice but to be excited.
Good news: they’re fantastic.
Withernot revived the classic heavyweight rugby shirt from actual heritage, not just nostalgia marketing.
Founder Patrick Hill modeled Withernot shirts after classic rugby shirts his dad wore in the 70s, then sourced a proper heavyweight knit to get the durability right.
I haven’t had a chance to wear the shirts yet (it’s warm where I live), but you can bet the moment I need a layer I’ll be reaching for one of these.
The shirts themselves feel like high quality. Soft yarn, but knitted with real strength, so it feels built for actual wear and tear rather than just looking the part.
These models have everything you’d look for in a great rugby. White twill collar, rubber buttons, all the details done right.
Now I just need the weather to cooperate so I can actually wear these out. Full review coming once they’ve seen some real mileage.
